About Stevens ASBPA

The Stevens Institute of Technology chapter of the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) is the first student chapter of ASBPA established at a university.  The Stevens chapter was chartered in October 2011 at the ASBPA National Coastal Conference in New Orleans, LA.

Being involved in professional organizations surrounding your field is very important. Professional organizations such as ASBPA provide students a way to meet other engineers and scientists in the ocean and coastal community, attend national conferences to learn about the most recent advances in your field and network with leading professionals, and receive journals and newsletters showcasing recent coastal projects and developments in research.

The student chapter of ASBPA is open to all undergraduate and graduate students attending Stevens Institute of Technology. The chapter includes an active contingent of graduate coastal researches that regularly present at national conferences.  Additionally, the student chapter promotes exposure to ocean and coastal engineering at the undergraduate level through engineering field trips to local New Jersey beaches and education and outreach activities. The chapter offers numerous volunteering opportunities at  Ocean Fun Days, the ASBPA conferences and beach sweeps with Clean Ocean Action.Feel free to email the student chapter president (Matt Janssen - if you have any questions about membership or events.
